Hiking with History

Posted by Dawn B.

This Sunday, I will share the day with neighbors and Ken Fisher, our local historian. We will do a 4 hour one way hike through our local canyons while Ken educates us on the history of the early 1900s. Of particular interest on Kings Mountain is the logging days. Throughout our area, with a trained eye, logging efforts can easily be detected. Not as easy to detect are the "ghost towns" such as Grabtown, that have been swallowed up by the redwoods, ferns, and bannana slugs. Equally as interesting is the plan crash in the 1950s and the stories of murder and revenge! What I love about days like this coming Sunday is the opportunity to get some exercise, learn a few things, and share the day with normally busy neighbors. Maybe I can swap my lunch with one of them ...
