I have had epilepsy almost my whole life. First from a high fever-febrile seizure. About a year later, came back hard...now back in the 70's fewer options, especially small town in MI. So Phenobarbital was the answer. My whole childhood had atypical absence seizures-felt them coming on. They took a brief turn in my teens (hormones) And with stress after I got married 1st time-they started to show up-only they were the compex partial kind. While after, got pregnant-seizures just went nuts...and the Dr. in AL just kept upping my Pheno til I was at 660mg (from 180) so coming off of it was a bear. But seizures were out of control. Went to Mayo Hospital in 2002 PHX, AZ where I had my 1st brain surgery. On Phenobarb, normal dose...I was fully controlled again! Then life took a turn, now ex husband beat me, and began my overdosing to numb that pain. Found it really didn't-Jesus did. After my finally big OD, that I shouldn't have lived thru-but HE had mercy on me...we changed all meds...none controlled seizures. Back into testing for another surgery. And that is what I did in 2005. Came out a LOT better...but so many meds I just can't take-they rip my body apart. We are looking into a study being done..and if that isn't what I go for, then fall back on the VNS, last resort. God will guide me...we will see. Right now, just have to feel better as I lie here at Mayo Hospital. God Bless this site.
