Why is the pain so bad after contrast dye leaked into my arm muscle?

Posted by Mgg

I had an echocardiogram 2 weeks ago where they injected contrast dye into my wrist (only vein they could find after no food or water for 8 hours).  Apparently, some of the dye leaked into my wrist and has settled in the muscle on the top side of my wrist.  The pain there is nearly excruciating!  I have tried anti-inflamatory meds, Aspercream rubbed into the muscle and moist heat several times a day, but nothing helps.  How long will the pain last?  Will anything help alleviate the pain?  Sometimes it hurts all the time, but sometimes only when I move my wrist a certain way.  Any ideas?
