What happens when asprin is taken during chest pains? does it abort the attack that would have happened?

I had all the symptons I took asprin the pain stopped but returned and I took another it stopped again for the most part. I was admitted to the ER It returned I took nitro it stopped. Iwas admitted to stay in the hospital I had another pretty severe pain 45 mins. later. I took another nitro.  the pain stopped. I stayed 24 hours and nothing else happened.

Test showed no attack occurred. Did asprin and nitro prevent it?
