Yesterday I met a friend in Canton for lunch and to do some critiquing. I asked her if we could meet at Yawn’s Bookstore in the main part of town because Yawn’s was kind enough to put Nick’s New Heart on their shelf. I wanted to support their business. Yawn’s offers a nice little sandwich, soup,or salad lunch with nice people serving. We enjoyed our meeting and lunch. I would recommend Yawn’s if you are ever in Canton, but beware that you can get a parking ticket. My friend and I came out to find tickets on both of our cars. We had been there two and a half hours. Neither of us saw the posted signs. Neither of us could ingine a town with open parking places everywhere, traffic light enough to be able to jaywalk anywhere at anytime could possibly be giving out parking tickets. I was feeling good about myself for trying to support the downtown area. But two people from out of town that plan to meet in Canton again will be thinking twice about meeting in the downtown area. Instead we will be going to a chain restaurant that will let us stay for as long as we want . I have always been under the impression that the old downtown areas are dying and therefore encouraging business. I guess Canton has all it needs.
