Hi,
Of course, this varies depending on many other factors. If has diabetes, his recovery would probably be longer. Also, if he had any other complications, they might delay his recovery.
It takes 6-8 weeks alone for the breast bone to heal. The surgeon needs to cut through this to perform the surgery. So, he will probably have some soreness and be unable to lift anything heavy for this time period at least. In time, he should begin to gain strength. His doctor will probably recommend a walking program to get him back in shape.
Keep in mind that each person is different. It's not unusual to experience some depression following surgery. This can delay his recovery too. Hopefully, he will regain his strength and resume his activities soon.
