Administration of niaspan with simvastatin

Posted by lfeather

Trying to figure out the best way to take these two medications and have received conflicting advice from dr and nurse. One says to take the simvastatin at night, the other said it didn't matter, but both prescription labels say to take at night. The doctor did specify not to take them at the same time, but which is best at night?

You can take both Simvastatin and Niaspan together at night.  There have been studies done with the combination of these two drugs.  The Simvastatin lowers the bad cholesterol or LDL and the Niaspan raises the good cholesterol or HDL and can also lower triglycerides.  I'm sure your physician will order a blood test to check your response to the combination of drugs and to also check your liver enzymes.
