My wife was rendered deaf in her left ear when someone threw a firework at her when she was in her teens (she is 51 now). In noisy environments she can hardly hear at all. She saw a consultant about 4 years ago, who said that this kind of deafness is very difficult to treat, and that an implant in the bone behind the ear might be an option, but that it was fairly invasive and that there was no guarantee of success.
Have there been any advances in the past 4 years that might have more of a chance of success?
