Weekend of CI moments and Audio book

Posted Nov 21 2008 3:02pm
I neglected to tell you my CI moments for this weekend...and it's only Sunday at 4am! Insomnia monster took over.

After the Radio show spot, I went over to Mom's to help her with the garage sale that we're setting up next Saturday, she kept putting off for 11 years. With me moving to Vegas, it was finally an excuse for her to do this. I arrived at her house, and Mom was still at work for a little while more. My car badly needed some good washing. I cleaned out my car, and just kept doing stuff my own merrily way.

When I was entering the garage area, I would hear a distinct beep. I would try my best to move toward the sound, hoping to find the source of the sound that my mother always taught me to do. I found it was close to the breakers. I would put my CI ear closer and it would beep again. I would move, then I don't hear the beep. Move again, I would hear the beep, and it only occurs if I'm close to the breakers. SO, I first thought, oh no, there's a bomb planted there by the evil doers of Boonton who doesn't want Terry to be the Alderman. Of course, I dismissed that.

Mom arrived, and I told her to stay still, I cannot figure out the sound for me. I told her that every time I go in the garage, I hear a beep. She says, "I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. Come in the garage and stop near the garage door." I obeyed. I said to her, yeah that's exactly it. She pointed to the saftey beams of the garage if someone crosses it while the door closing it automatically stops the garage door from coming down. I looked at her, "THAT makes a noise?! That's annoying!" "You're telling me!", she says. So, yay! CI moment!

In my town on Friday, after I came home, there was a fair going on. I was sitting down, and I was hearing loud booming noise. I thought it was the TV as I wasn't paying attention. After a while, I said to Roy, "What's that noise?" He just said, "Oh it's the fireworks." Mind you, I was able to hear the fireworks just fine with my hearing aids, and it still sound exactly the same as I remember it. What drove me crazy is the fact that I just say, "What's that noise?" without really trying to remember. I looked away from Roy and said to myself, "duh...didn't you hear that before?!"

So, I realized that I have to learn to listen more carefully, and try to determine what the sound is without jumping to conclusion that I never heard before. CI Lesson #31. :-)

Got my Audio book for Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. It's not available at the library, so I was stuck with purchasing one. As you can see in the picture, that my book was well read. The last 20 or so pages has been water damaged due to accidentally dropping it in bath water. A few pages has been falling out. It's a well loved book. So far, I read it 4 times as I wrote it down in the inside cover. I'm not ready to give this book up. I don't like the cover art of the newer book.

Anyways, I opened my mail and saw the audio book box. Two inches thick, and I got $20 off the original price. Not bad. I was just so excited and itching to put it on my iPod. I showed it to Roy. He took a look at it and said to me, "Do you know how many CDs there are in this?" I said to him, "15?"

"Try 26", he says. You would not believe how much my eyes bulged out. I was thinking to myself, how the heck can 26 CDs fit in that little box?! So, here's a picture!
31 hours! I put it in my computer CD player, and listened to the speaker, and found that he was very clear and good paced. Unlike Ramona Quimby, Age 8, the accent issue with Harry Potter.
