Wearing "ears" on the ears

Posted Jan 14 2009 8:45pm
It has been 3mths since Thomas' 2nd CI was activated. He has been wearing his right(1st) processor with the snugfit/babyworn set up for about the past 8mths. It took a few months of wearing the entire processor pinned to his shirt with the long cord and coil. We eventually started using the snugfit when the babyworn was sent to us.
When Thomas was initially activated back in April he wanted nothing to do with anything on his left ear. So we went back to what we did with the right side.....pinnned the processor to his shirt with the long cord and coil. While we were on vacation he startd pulling the coil off..ALOT! A few days before we came home he pulled the entire thing off and wanted nothing to do with it. He went a few days with only 1 "ear" so when we finally got back home I switched out what I could and also attached the snugfit and babyworn. Last Tuesday I put his right ear on...no problem as usual. I went and picked up the left CI and showed it to him. I slipped it on his ear and he slid down the bed and ran into the living room and started playing. NO problem at all!
I am thinking that with wearing the processor on his shirt he was getting alot of "bad noise" (rubbing from his car seat straps, his shirt rustling, etc) we were spending alot of time in the car driving from place to place and that is usually when he would pull the left processor off of his shirt (we have a few shirts that are now ruined with two big holes in the back from him pulling so hard that the pin would start ripping the fabric...oh well)
It has been almost 1 week and so far (knock on wood) no problems!!!!
We had Jonathan's birthday party this past weekend (today is his actually birthday...Happy 9th Birthday Jon) and I had received alot of comments on how talkative Thomas was and how clear his speech is becoming. We have been trying to get him to repeat things that he has said when they are not too clear. "Thank you" used to come out as "ahh uuu" after some repeating and help he now says "ank you"...still have some problems with "th". He is doing great with multiple commands...can you pick up the dinosaur and give it to Daddy? Can you take your plate and put it in the sink and than put your tray in the kitchen? (after snack time). Although a few plates have been chipped by Thomas helping clean up after dinner...he insists on putting the dishes in the sink ~sometimes not too gentle!
It is amazing how far he has come. To think a few years back at how helpless I felt ~ whew...how far we have come!!!
