Waiting for Santa is always a blast, and this year – with Eric fully knowing the agenda – it was so much fun! A good chunk of the evening was spent hanging out watching some Christmas cartoons, some of the classics I grew up loving myself. It’s so fun sharing them with the boys and watching them all over again! Once Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Year Without Santa Claus were over, it was time to start getting ready for the big guy to make his visit. It started with Danny managing to strip out of his harness and take his ears off; yes, he got the whole dang thing off! I took that as a cue for jammies and Danny was ready for bed.
Of course, then it was time to really prep for the special visit. Danny was tucked in, and Eric sang his special lullaby he likes to sing every night to Danny once he’s in his crib. I don’t quite have the heart to remind Eric that Danny can’t hear a thing at that point; Eric’s tiny voice singing, “Lullabyyyyy, lullabyyyy…” then saying in a quiet voice, “Love you, Danny. Come out and play soon!” is too much for me to give up for such a trifling thing. Then, downstairs we went, and it was time to hang out stockings!
“But Mommy, we don’t have a fireplace!” “I know, Eric, but I made a deal with Santa. If we hang them by the TV, he’ll know where to find them.”
At least, once we get them off Eric’s feet he will.
The Stockings were hung by the chimney TV with care, and it was time to entice Santa to visit with some snacks! Eric even said that Santa could have some chocolate milk, a prized possession indeed.
Up to bed we went, tucking in to read The Night Before Christmas, and a kiss and a hug later I was back downstairs. Half an hour later, I suck up to make sure Eric was asleep…and found him sitting on the couch watching Franklin’s Christmas. Hm. Well then. A couple conversations about Santa not coming until little boys are asleep – and a half hour – later, I managed to coax him into bed and got him asleep. The excitement was just too much I guess! I can’t wait to see him in the morning.
