Screening Newborns for Hearing Loss - New Research

New research supporting the benefits of the Newborn Hearing Screening.
Nebraska has mandated newborn hearing screening and that is how Lily's hearing loss was identified.
Even when babies fail their hearing screens in the hospital, not all parents are following up with immediate tests. That means many deaf and hearing-impaired babies aren't getting the early intervention, such as hearing aids and language therapy that they need for long-term success.
Doctors aim to provide babies with hearing aids by 3 months, although they can be fitted with the devices as early as 1 month. The earlier that kids get help, the better.
