Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox has outraged deaf people this week, after tweeting that subtitles on a film were “daft”.
Cox, 36, complained on Twitter about having to sit through a subtitled screening of Bridesmaids – and was censured by hundreds of outraged deaf users.
One of her deaf online followers wrote: "Get some respect and realise how lucky you are to HEAR!"
Another said: "I find it very difficult to find subtitled films at cinemas. We're not second-rate citizens."
She later posted an apology, admitting her comments were “not thought through”.
Brian Gale, of the National Deaf Children’s Society, said: “We hope Sarah Cox now understands.”
