Residual Hearing...

Posted Nov 21 2008 3:02pm
When I was driving home from getting my meningitis shot (Surgeon wanted me to wait until after surgery to get it just in case if I get the "cold-like" symptoms that could cancel my surgery), I saw my left hearing aid in my car. I thought to myself, "Gee. I guess I'll never wear you ever again."

From reading about other people's experiences, and my friends experiences...they all say that they lost their residual hearing.

I decided to just try my hearing aids on, just for the heck of it.
Whoa Nelly!

The result was totally unexpected...I can *STILL* hear out of my left.
I asked some of the people on a forum about it, and found that there was a few people that still had their residual hearing after implantation.
What's even more cool about this is...if I have my surgeon do the same procedure for my right, and I'll still be able to preserve my right ear's residual hearing in case if the CI doesn't work out. I doubt that it won't, but it's nice to know that my residual hearing can still be preserved.

I wonder what would happen if I tried to put in BOTH my processor AND my HA in my left ear....yeah, that would really screw up my brain. :-)

Meanwhile - Check out Abbie's Blog and you'll see that she captioned her video of her activation day. Although I've seen it before, I was only able to understand Abbie, and a few words from her audie.
