Listening antenna

Posted Jan 22 2009 6:14pm
Peas continues to perform wonderfully in the soundbooth. Last week he tested at 15-25dB on the left side with speech detection at 15dB. Incredible, right? Proof that he CAN hear, right?

Turns out it's not that easy.

The problem is that the soundbooth seems to be the ONLY place where he is choosing to listen.

He is not babbling, doesn't seem to notice when we talk to him, and doesn't really even startle except when the noise is really loud. His AVT was here for our weekly session on Friday and she explained that he is so used to tuning out his brother and sister and all of the other environmental noise that occurs when you have three children, that he is completely missing what he SHOULD be paying attention to. She said that we need to work on Peas' "listening antenna."

So what am I supposed to do? Keep the other two kids in a soundproof box?

Wait, that's a great idea, actually. Or maybe I could just keep myself in a soundproof box.

Thoughts?
