It's already been reported that golfers should consider wearing ear plus, as the sport can risk their hearing. Now a new report out today reveals that modern drivers do infact make such a noise when they hit the ball that they CAN damage hearing.
The research, published in the British Medical Journal, tells how a 55-year-old man suffering from hearing impairment went to see a specialist who found the cause to be his habit of playing golf three times a week using a King Cobra LD titanium club. The man told how each time he hit the ball it was 'like a gun going off'.
Researchers found certain drivers, such as the King Cobra LD, created more noise than others. Malcolm Buchanan, a specialist at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital who carried out the research, said that he had no idea that golf clubs could cause such damage, but since publishing his findings, he has become aware of other cases.
'I have since been contacted by another golfer who suffers from tinnitus every time he hits with his driver, and feels that his hearing is down as a result,' he said.
