The most expensive hearing aid in the world has been created by a London firm called PC Werth. It’s made of 24 carat gold and encrusted with 220 diamonds. It will blow a hole in your pocket til kingdom come. How much moolah are we talking about? A cool £25,000. BUT! You don’t just get gold n diamonds, blingy as they may be. You also get state of the art digital hearing aid technology. Hearing aids in the private sector are far superior to those provided by the NHS and handed out free of charge to the masses. The bling aid comes with a remote control enabling the user to maximise performance in various situations.
Is this the beginning of designers trying to make hearing aids fashionable, by appealing to the moneyed trend setters? I can see ageing rockers wearing this but not Joe Bloggs. PC Werth’s rationale is that people are proud to wear digital hearing aids, they are becoming more socially acceptable, and are even being worn as jewellery. (Huh?!) The age profile of wearers is getting younger - hellooooo iPod generation, welcome to our world!
Well, does this one get the thumbs up or the thumbs down?
