Are there grants for families with a partially deaf child to get hearing aids?

Posted by Guardwife

We have recently found out that my almost 6 year old grandson is almost totally deaf in one ear. He also has a speach problem that we believe is a result of this. Their health insurance does not cover anything for hearing devices and as my son in law is a police officer, they really don't have a lot of money for this. We are checking into other areas, but I am wondering if there are any grants available for this typ of thing.

I would check with the Alexander Graham Bell Association. http://www.agbell.org/DesktopDefault.aspx

Your grandson is not alone in the frustrations of having hearing loss which is not covered by health insurance. Most companies will call this a "cosmetic" need. Apparently they've never suffered with hearing loss.

The good news is that you're not without options. The first place I'd suggest you look into is the Starkey Foundation. Starkey gives away thousands of hearing aids a year to individuals who need aids, but are unable to afford them.  There are many other options out there as well that I'd be happy to help you with.
