Hedwig Christoph, aged 99, won't miss a single sound this Christmas. Following her surgery last week, she will be able to hear better than she has for many years - bells ringing, children singing and the gift of hearing will be hers before the New Year!
Hedwig, who actively sought out her CI in order to improve her quality of life, is thought to be the oldest patient on record to receive a cochlear implant. It was reported that the surgery went well and she was alert and smiling within hours of implantation.
