Hey readers! So as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I went ziplining yesterday! I had never been before and so I decided to grab a “friend” and use a Buy With Me that I had purchased a while back and try it out. Clearly I am feeling super adventurous these days. Perhaps it’s the weather. Or something in the water. Whatever it is, I am eager to try new things these days. Who knows, it could be a quarter life crisis. Anyway, the voucher was for two mountain top tours at Berkshire East Canopy Tours . The only problem with this is that this place is FAR from Boston. The drive took us about 2.5 hours. That being said, it is still worth driving to.
The tour is at the top of a mountain, so naturally they don’t make you walk up, you get to take a ski lift. Who doesn’t love taking a ski lift? Especially when it’s not below zero outside and you’re not freezing your ass off.
Can’t you just see the excitement in my face? Ok, not really excitement at this point, I was feeling a little nervous. Not as nervous as for Friday’s canoe experience, but still a little apprehensive at the thought of jumping off cliffs and towers with just some thin straps supporting me.
The view from the top of the chair lift was breathtaking.
Here I am getting “strapped in.” Our tour guide, Patrick, looked just like Jason Segel, only not quite as chubby. I wanted to tell him so but feared that he would think it was an insult, not a compliment, so I withheld.
Immediately after this photo was taken I made the classic mistake of putting my helmet on backwards. Clearly a rookie mistake, but embarassing nonetheless…especially since our female tour guide, Shannon, felt the need to point it out as our whole group was standing in a circle listening to a safety speech. So if you’re reading, thanks for that Shannon!
This is right before my first zip…and here is where you see the excitement. After watching a few other people go, I was really anxious to get going.
One zip was all it took for me to be completely comfortable. On the very next line, I started out by shoving off a pole with my feet backwards. The next one I took a running start. Luckily, most of the lines were side by side so my friend and I could go at the same time and he could take pictures.
He even managed to get a video while we were zipping side by side.
The weather was absolutely beautiful, although being that high up, I definitely got a lot of sun and got a little sweaty towards the end.
We had such a great time, I can’t wait to do it again. The mountain tour has 7 lines total. Berkshire East also has an “extreme” tour that has lines that are twice as long and twice as high that I would love to do.
Are you afraid of heights? Have you ever done a canopy tour?
