YMCA: Kid's Don't Get Enough Physical Activity

Posted Apr 18 2011 2:51pm
A new survey conducted by the YMCA has found that three out of four kids ages 5 to 10 get less than one hour of physical activity daily. The YMCA of the USA surveyed more than 1,600 parents. The information that came out of the survey is pretty interesting, but I am somewhat alarmed. Findings from the survey:

  • 15% of parents surveyed by the study said their child’s physical health was a top concern.
  • 52% of parents have been forced to cut back on after-school activities for their kids to save money.
  • 74% of parents choose family time spent in front of the TV.
  • 53% of parents spend leisure time with their kids playing video and/or computer games.
