I contacted X Training Equipment about the possibility of reviewing one of their wall balls. My email was promptly returned by Daniel himself and after a brief phone conversation, we were on our way. Daniel was very pleasant to speak with and shipped the ball out very promptly.
I was so excited to open the box and see this beauty! Here are some specs about the ball:

Another great thing about X Training Equipment wall balls is that all the varying ball weights come in the same 14" diameter, allowing you to increase your weight without changing your movement as you build strength and endurance.
As you may already know, we have been building up our home gym. Having a wall ball as an addition is a great piece of endurance cardio equipment that won't break the bank and brings a new level of intensity to any workout.
The most common movement performed with these balls are wall balls or wall shots. In Crossfit the standard weight for men is a 20 lb. ball, 14 lbs. for women. The line at the wall is marked at a height of 10' for men and 8' for women. These weights are heights are subject to modifications based on the fitness level of the individual performing the movement. Just like all crossfit movements, wall balls are completely scaleable. In the pictures below, my handsome husband is performing the movement.
Standing about arms length away from the wall, you hold the ball at chest height, under the chin.
Many people, myself included make this movement much harder than it needs to be when first performing it. The first time I ever did a wod at the gym that included wall balls, I would catch the ball while still standing and then go down into the front squat, losing all momentum. I should have been catching the ball while seamlessly going down into the front squat position and capitalizing on the momentum. Once you realize this and feel the difference, you will never perform it wrong again.
This is just one of the many many movements you can perform with a wall ball. It is a great piece of equipment for total body conditioning. A few minutes with one of these balls will send your heart rate soaring.
