Setting Up a Home Gym
Having a gym at home is a convenient way for many to exercise without leaving home. Only a small amount of space is required. You needn’t spend excessively to outfit your home gym. Much of the high tech and expensive equipment goes unused. Only the most basic and traditional equipment is needed. Here’s how to outfit your home gym on any budget.
$25- One set of moderate weight dumbbells
$50- One set of moderate weight dumbbells and
a step or a bench.
$100- One set of moderate weight dumbbells, one set of heavy
dumbbells and a step or a bench
$250 Dumbbells, step or bench and a heavy punching bag
with gloves and target mitts.
This is all the equipment you need to have a great home gym. If you wish to buy a treadmill or other expensive piece of cardio equipment, please try out different models in a gym. Then do your research and price out the model you want. Trying out a piece of equipment in a store with a sales rep standing over you is NOT a prudent way to make a big purchase. Buy used equipment with extreme caution. Consider a service contract even with new equipment.
Joining a Gym
For some, working out at home is not an ideal arrangement and one of the crucial elements of a successful exercise program is to utilize a venue that is consistent with your lifestyle and personality. If you must workout in a gym, consider these tips:
Do a test travel to your gym. What takes five minutes on a sleepy Saturday morning may take 30 minutes during rush hour.
Do a test run of the gym itself. Ask a membership associate for aFREEthree day pass. Go during the times you would normally go if you were to join. Take in the atmosphere. Is it conducive to your new way of exercise? Our program is serious business and a high-style gym with preening members walking about may not be the best setting!
Tour the locker room. Is it safe to leave your belongings while you shower and change?
It’s important to feel a part of the gym. If not, you will quickly lose your desire to go. Little annoyances at the beginning will become major aggravations as time goes by.
Ask for a month to month membership so that you are not locked into a long term contract.
