Wine, Food & Fun

On August 13th, the Fireman and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary.  Yes, we got married on the 13th; it was Friday, the 13th to be exact.  We wanted to start out on a high note. :)   In all seriousness it is hard to believe that a year has gone by since our wedding.  Life seems to happen so fast.  It was nice to slow down, take is easy and spend a day celebrating this lovely little thing called life.

We started the day wine tasting in Woodinville, WA wine country .  Because of time constraints we weren’t able to visit more than one winery.  Earlier in the week a coworker of mine highly recommend we visit the small, but mighty JM Cellars , assuring us that it would not disappoint.  And let me tell you, it was AWESOME!

JM Cellars is a tiny family owned winery, with top-notch wines.  You can absolutely taste the quality.  We loved their grounds tour from John Bigelow the owner and winemaker.  He was personable and funny.  It was refreshing to see his passion for wine, in place of bored employees reciting the same wine tour script for the fourth time that day.  JM also offered great wine tasting…  We tried 7 different wines!  Amazing.  It was so romantic to sample their wines and relax outside on their rustic and beautiful grounds.  By the end, we were thankful that dinner was just down the road.  Of the seven we tried our favorite was their Bramble Bump White of which we bought a few bottles. :)

After wine tasting, we headed over the Purple Cafe in Woodinville for dinner.  I LOVE this restaurant.  Love their food, love their drinks, the ambiance…. you get the picture. I have a foodie crush.

To start things off we ordered their lightly battered and pan-fried calamari.  OMG.  Seriously, one of the best things I have ever eaten.  It was light, mouth-watering, and full of flavor…. Out of this world good.

There was even a heart-shaped piece.  That is just how perfect it was.

For dinner the Fireman ordered the Filet Mignon.  It apparently was delicious.  I opted for the Apple, Walnut, and Stilton salad with marinated flank steak.  This is by far one of my favorite meals to order anywhere.  The version at Purple Cafe made my toes curl mainly because the cheese was so fantastic and the champagne vinaigrette was to die for.

After dinner, we headed to see Amos Lee in concert at the Chateau St. Michelle outdoor amphitheater.  The concert was chill and soulful.  It was the perfect end to the perfect day.  If our anniversary is any indication of the year to follow, we are in good form.
