WIAW: Foodie Out In London

Posted May 23 2012 12:00am

Welcome back for another WIAW post!

London is in full Jubilee-mode and it makes the city more exciting than it already is. I spent the day yesterday out in London, hanging out with my sister, shopping, eating lots! (you’ll see) and having fun.

As always a huge thanks to Jenn for hosting the weekly party :)

Instead of having breakfast at home I decided to head into the city for brunch at Le Pain Quotidien. This is one of my favorite places to go for breakfast/ brunch since they have an amazing selection of delicious bread and other great breakfast option. Also, their coffee tastes really good.

I usually always get a fruit cup and then have something oat-y or bread. Yesterday I had the granola parfait which is also once of my favorites and instead of having coffee I opted for their special, organic raspberry lemonade. It was so good and refreshing. I would have really wanted to ask for the recipe since it makes a great summer-drink.

Christina joined me for some shopping around noon. She had to work in the morning but took the afternoon off to spend time with me. I really do have the best sister. We walked up and down Regent Street and then went to Abercrombie.

I wouldn’t usually take pictures there but I was feeling super geeky. Also, the model’s body looked quite inviting ;)

After shopping came the fun part of the day! As part of the post-exam celebratory affairs Christina surprised me with Afternoon Tea (again, don’t I have the best sister?!) We took the tube to High Street Kensington and walked to the Royal Garden Hotel which overlooked Hyde Park. We were pleasantly greeted by a glass of champagne. Tea-wise we both chose the chocolate-chip truffle tea because really how can you choose something else? Our waiter said that it might be too strong for us since many people don’t like the intensity of the chocolate in the tea, but we could handle it. We’re chocolate lovers!

We started off with a selection of different finger sandwiches. . .

. . . before we dug into this . . .

The scones were really good. Some of the best ones yet and I’ve been to quite a few Afternoon Teas during the last 2 years. We also really liked the preserves they served. Instead of the usual strawberry preserve they served pineapple and mango-peach preserve which was such a great twist. I also really liked the chocolate mousse square!

After the Afternoon Tea we had some time before we had to be at Bliss for pedicures so we went to Whole Foods where Christina stocked up on essentials (nut butters!)

For dinner Christina made burgers, roasted veggies and home-made potato wedges which she seasoned with piri piri. Since the weather was so warm and sunny, dinner was accompanied by another glass of Pimm’s!

Now that the weather is so beautiful I really wish I could stay here for another couple of days. However, I am currently en route to the airport. I’m flying home to Austria for a couple of weeks since I have some time of off Uni before my summer lectures start. Don’t worry London, I’ll be back :)
