Well, I’m really glad I decided to go to bed instead of blogging last night. Because otherwise the entire theme of this post would be totally different! I was supposed to get my wisdom teeth out today, but that ended up not happening.
It will happen in January, the day before my birthday. Yay (<– sarcasm…)
Anyway, I had this whole little intro planned about how the part I was least looking forward to is the whole “no solid foods for two days” thing – but now I don’t have to do that! And it will be better in January, because it will be soup season. But I digress.
Again I haven’t been great about keeping up with this month’s What I Ate Wednesday theme – but I’ve been all over the place, and it’s kind of hard to stick with staple foods when you don’t have much consistency. But fear not – I do have a delicious day of eats for you!
Airport breakfast! NYC Laguardia terminal does not have that many good healthy breakfast options, so I usually try to bring my own. But I can always count on some coffee and fresh fruit to be available!
Fruit cup, coffee, hard-boiled eggs from home. I actually had a delicious white peach before leaving my apartment at 7:30am. Wasn’t planning to, but didn’t think I could wait until after airport security to eat a real breakfast. I got through security with plenty of time to leisurely eat and enjoy my little ”meal”
Hey, guys, I’m in Chicago now!
[insert snack age here]: apple, protein bar
Lunch with the momma at our f avorite french bakery , Floriole ! I got a couple of salads (tasty, but a bit heavy on the oil) and a chilled carrot soup. Not the best meal I’ve had from here , but certainly not a disappointment. Oh, and the sourdough bread is amazing as always.
Really, you expect us to go to a bakery (especially a European one at that) and not get dessert? Yeah. Okay. Delicious blueberry galette!
Since it’s the last night before I can eat solid foods for a little while, I was really happy to hear we would be dining at a fantastic wine bar – Webster’s (for those in chicago, go check it out!)
I started with a lovely, light Austrian Riesling (no picture). I love wine.
Started with a bibb lettuce salad with almonds, oranges, snow peas, and a delicious vinaigrette (can’t remember specifics)
The wine bar is more of a tapas-style place, so the rest of the plates were all shared. Like these peppadew peppers (I had to look that one up) stuffed with goat cheese. These were so good, and a tiny bit of unexpected heat! ( Jenn , this seems right up your alley)
Greek lamb skewers – I had a smallish bite. So delicious! I’m not really loving the way eating meat makes me feel, but I wanted to try this, so I did!
Seared tuna steak – I loved the dressings and preparation, but I didn’t think the tuna itself was anything amazing.
Tuesday is movie night (cheap theater tickets!) – so of course I had a few handfuls of movie theater popcorn. I have a ridiculous weakness for popcorn. Good thing it’s not that bad for you if you make it yourself without any oil or butter or salt.
Any Chicago people – have you been to Floriole or Webster’s? If not, you should!
What’s your favorite local restaurant where you live?
