My youngest son has been dying to take a cooking class. I checked with the park district and they charge $20 to make some dirt cups. $20 for some pudding and crushed Oreos? Ummm…no thanks.

I remember seeing that Whole Foods had kid’s cooking classes, so I checked online yesterday and found that they had one going on today. And for only $5. Sign me up!

I think this is the first time that Whole Foods has ever been cheaper than somewhere else. Way to go, Whole Foods.

This morning after I dropped my older son off at school, my younger son and I went to Whole Foods for the cooking class.

When we got there, they passed out aprons to all the kids and had them sit at big tables.

Then they passed out the ingredients for the recipes.

The first recipe was crackers with cream cheese and granola. My son ate every single one of the crackers. Thank goodness there were no other kids at our table, or a fight might have broken out for those crackers.

Then the kids got graham crackers to spread with cream cheese and top with jam. The jam looked really good, I kinda wanted to eat it out of the bowl.

Next, was whole wheat bread spread with cream cheese (you might notice a cream cheese theme here) and topped with strawberries and cucumbers. Kind of an odd combo. My son wouldn’t touch that one, he just wanted to spread the cheese on with the knife. I did try a bite with the strawberries and it was pretty good. I don’t know about the cucumbers though.

The final recipe was my son’s favorite. The kid’s got a cup full of cut-up apple pieces with cinnamon and sugar. They got to put their hand over the top of the cup, and shake it all up. My son ate every single apple piece. I don’t think that he even stopped to chew.

This is probably the best $5 I have ever spent. My son loved it. The recipes were healthy and super easy for the kid’s to make. And it made my son feel like he could cook all by himself.

They have different recipes every month, so I’m sure we’ll go back next month.

After the cooking class, we decided to eat an early lunch at Whole Foods. I still had a living social coupon to use there, so it worked out good.

Since my son exists mostly on snacks, the cooking class food pretty much was his lunch.

He did get pizza though, which I ended up eating. Darn.

I love Whole Foods hot/cold bar. So good. I got salad with veggies, cranberry couscous, and ranch dressing. I love their ranch dressing. I also had two potatoes, grapes, pita pieces with hummus, and some kind of pasta. I ate all of it because it was so delicious.

After Whole Foods we stopped by Woodfield Mall to look around for a bit, and then we came back home.

Tuesday is our super busy night with two karate classes and kickboxing.

Do you have a Whole Foods near you? What’s your favorite thing to get there?
