I’ve been asked this question a couple times and I find it difficult to answer because, to be honest, I think it’s a little different for everyone. But I will try and explain what it means to me.
When I created this blog in January 2011, those two words were just the first ones that happened to pop into my head when I thought about my goals for my weight loss journey. I was overweight and feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. I wanted to be flexible, strong and confident - three things I hadn’t felt in a very long time. So I chose two words that embodied that feeling to me and called the blog “body zen”.
It’s that feeling of strength and inspiration you get from moving and loving your body. I have no solid way to describe it. If you play sports, or run races, it’s that feeling of accomplishment when you break a personal best. If you practice yoga, it’s the moment of clarity in your posture when you find your breathe and expand fully. When you dance it’s that full freedom of expression with your body. Does that make sense?
I still don’t always feel that way in my body. I have good days and bad days, as most of us do. I’m not sure that I’d still be blogging if all my days were perfect. :p But basically that’s what body zen is; that strive to be the best version of yourself physically and mentally.
My Zen is:
Lots of fruits and veggies
Daily yoga practice
Daily walk/run with pup
Natural lotions, makeup, shampoo etc.
Playtime with loved ones
