What a year!

Posted Dec 31 2012 8:00am

So it’s time for the inevitable 2012 recap. 2012 was a great year for me! I took a lot of time for myself this year (read: unemployment periods), but I feel like it put me on the right track, and I’ve learned to look at opportunities and experiences in a new light. I’ve learned to follow my heart, and it seems to be working for me! Some of my biggest accomplishments this year include…

  • Starting this blog! My very first post was March 12, 2012. This little old blog has given me opportunities I never thought possible. The people I have met, and relationships I have formed are invaluable. I’ve learned that I really can do whatever I want, and the blogging community (bloggers AND readers!) shows me that everyday.
  • I PR’d in the half marathon, twice! My old PR was 2:07:21. I beat that once in May with 1:55:36 and then beat THAT in November with 1:54:59 !
I taught myself my way around the weight room. I had wanted to start lifting weights for a long time, but I was entirely intimidated, and couldn’t afford a personal trainer. SO, I read everything I could find about exercises and form, I sucked up my pride, and walked into the gym like a lost puppy. 3 months later, I had completed Jamie Eason’s LiveFit trainer.
  • Two months after that, I became a personal trainer!
  • I auditioned for the Booty Camp Fitness DVD. I didn’t make the cut, but I overcame my nerves and I auditioned! I later learned that I was shortlisted for the DVD, and almost made it! After that, Booty Camp Fitness even hired little old me as an instructor :)
  • I transitioned to 100% minimalist running. My old trainers are legit collecting dust. I wear Vibram FiveFingers for everything!
  • I ran my first trail race !
  • I placed in a race for the first time! (So later I learned that my 3rd place became 5th place but that’s ok, hah)
  • I rode in my first bike race! Well it wasn’t really a race ( Ride for Heart) but I rode 50k and it was my 3rd time on a bike since I was 12, so not bad, hah!

In 2012, I gained a confidence in myself that I have never had before. I have the desire and the drive to do better, feel better and be better– and for once, I have the confidence to match.

I have lots of goals for 2013, and I’ll be sure to share them with you tomorrow!

What are you accomplishments in 2012 and goals for 2013? If you have a blog post, please link it below!

Thank all of you for reading my teeny tiny blog, I hope I can continue to amuse you (as much as I amuse myself) all the way through 2013!

Happy New Year!

Danielle
