what a weekend.

i’ve failed twice at having a blog.

without a theme, i think blogs are really hard to keep. at least for me. coming up with interesting posts is hard, and i think it will be a lot easier if it isn’t so random. so i’m trying again. and this time, my blog has a theme. food. nutrition. health. fitness. running. okay maybe it has many themes.

a little background before we get started: i’m 24, married, and living in nyc. over the last 3 years or so i’ve developed an interest in health and nutrition. i love really good food, and i also try to make good food healthy. i also love to run.

so here we go. nate’s former roommate/best friend came to town which naturally meant the weekend was full of really good food and drinks. i unfortunately had to work all weekend, but we were still able to squeeze in a lot of fun. friday night we made the best veggie burgers EVER. okay we didn’t actually make the burgers (those were from costco) but we put them on toasted whole wheat sourdough bread, added some pesto and veganaise,  and topped them with tomato and avocado. YUM.  these will definitely happen again so i’ll take a picture next time.

saturday we went to 5 napkin burger, a favorite of ours, and while the boys had the classic 5 napkin burgers i had a blackened shrimp salad and a glass of reisling.  by far the best meal of the weekend though was last night. a friend at work recommended kefi, a greek restaurant on the upper west side. AMAZING. so flipping good. we had the best red wine i think i’ve ever had (and i’m not a huge red wine fan), and their greek salad is so unique – the lettuce is sliced in really long ribbons and gives it great texture. i wasn’t super hungry so opted for the small salad and an appetizer – pita bread with warm feta cheese and red peppers, olives, tomatoes and capers. yum. i love ordering appetizers instead of entrees – good food and better portion sizes.  i really am going to start photographing my food.

with all the food and beer and wine this weekend it was a good thing i was able to squeeze in a few runs. friday i did about 3 miles in riverside park with buddy, including a horrendous set of stairs. saturday i only did about two – my body was a bit sluggish after only sleeping about 5 hours and i cut myself some slack. i’ll have to make up my long run this week – less than a month until my half marathon.
