What a difference a day makes...

Posted Apr 07 2014 10:51am
Last weekend I was pretty happy with having two fantastic long runs, 18 km trails and 24 km roads. This weekend was a bit of a different story…

I wasn’t actually sure if I’d be able to get out and run any trails this weekend so I chatted with Solana about what was on my training plan. She was going to be volunteering at the Diez Vistas 50K and said she could manage about an hour and a half of running before her shift began if I wanted to come run. Yes please! An hour and a half, how hard could it be right?

Wrong.

I met up with Solana and was freezing as we set off down the trails around Buntzen Lake. Right away I could tell that my legs were tired from a pretty solid 10k race pace run the night before but I figured that would go away as we got moving.

The lake was very peaceful as we got started...

About 25 minutes down the trail I realized I wasn’t starting to feel any better. My back was actually really sore and while I always have some degree of crappiness in my low back, it was especially bad on Saturday morning. Usually my stiff back loosens up as I move but it just felt pinched and really uncomfortable. Put that together with my tired legs and I just wasn’t feeling that great.

Hooray for jumping shots!
