I had a slight change in jobs last month, and I am still trying to figure out how to adjust my workout schedule to fit my new work schedule. This week I didn’t really succeed and ended up with a pretty light workout schedule. In the past, I probably would have passed up last minute social obligations rather than skip a planned workout, but these days, I’ve shifted my values a bit. If the opportunity to catch up with friends pops up, but means I can no longer make it to the gym, I’m cool with it. However, this weekend I definitely made up for my missed workouts, quite unintentionally!
I woke up kind of late on Saturday and really wanted to take a spinning class. The next one on the gym schedule was for 11:45, so that was the plan. The spin class was pretty good, it was kind of the classic spin classes where you are in and out of the seat a lot and all over the bike. The music didn’t really get me going, but it wasn’t bad. It ended up going a little late for a full hour of spinning, which is my preferred length for a class.After that I ran to the pharmacy to pick up some prescriptions, and of course, checked twitter while I was waiting. I noticed some tweets from Theodora and Erica about a blogger workout event at Equinox . I was planning to go too, but for some reason had my date mixed up! By this point, it was almost 1PM and we were supposed to be there at 1:30! I hurried home grabbing a pita from Maoz on the way. At home, I decompressed for a few minutes, ate my lunch, I was hungry and then changed into fresh workout clothes for the class. I hoped in a cab and made it to Equinox just moments before the class was supposed to start at 2PM.
While I was in a pretty big rush, I couldn’t help but stop and let my jaw drop to the floor as I stepped into the lobby.
This Equinox was one of the most beautiful gyms I have ever been in, and I’ve been to a gym or two! It was so posh and soothing, I couldn’t believe it. After gawking for a second (like a person who obviously didn’t belong to the gym), I met Charmaine at the counter, handed me a bottle of Fuji (no poland spring here!) and showed me right to the studio, pointing out the “Zen floor,” locker rooms and fitness spaces on the way! The workout was 30 minute versions of 3 different Equinox classes. First up was MetCon3.

The actual workout was pretty straight forward, after a warm up there were 10 exercises that we did for 1 minute each.

I really liked this workout because it moved so quickly and never got boring. My heartrate was up the whole time. The instructor kept us motivated and called me out when I wasn’t pushing hard enough. He also made me take 8 pounds weights, which were killer!
We repeated this twice and then it was on to the next class: Barre Burn.
Description: A total body workout that slims your hips, tightens your thighs, lifts your seat, & mobilizes your metabolism. Utilizing ballet movements, intelligent isometrics, changes in rhythm, range of motion & progressive core training, your body heals, tightens, strengthens so you look, feel and move better.
The class was similar to Core Fusion. We did mini arm, leg and ab sections. The instructor made it short and sweeteach section was tough! Thankfully, they were also short and as soon it was over the pain was gone.
Our last class preview was yoga!
I don’t think we really need a description for that one. However, between spinning and the first two classes, I was thrilled to have a little om time.
Our instructor was great. She took us through an easy flow that was just what I needed. Twenty-five minutes of yoga actually felt like the perfect amount to stretch and relax a bit.
It was a fun event and I really liked all three workouts! Doing two workouts back to back reminded me of the good ole days when I had seemingly unlimited energy. Here’s a cute shot of the blogger group:

After the classes, people hit up the eucalyptus showers and steam rooms. I went home and to lay on the couch and watch international house hunters. I knew I had a long run the next day, which is always difficult on a Sunday. I was hoping to make it to Athleta for run club, but I knew that the 7:30AM wake up call would be difficult. As I crawled into bed at 3:30 in the morning, I knew it wasn’t going to happen. Oh birthday parties!
Instead, I woke up at 9:15ish. Strapped on my fuelbelt for the first time since summer and I was out the door by 10am and I decided to hit the East River Path and just keep following it for 12 miles. The east side was crazy cold. Finally around the seaport the wind died down and I stopped thinking about being cold. I ran around the esplanade and up the west side. It was kind of a lonely run, so I was happy to have my music. I realized I was going to have to cut my run a little short if I was going to make it to brunch on time, so I ended up a mile short of 12. Overall it was a pretty good run, toward the end I was feeling a little tired and had to tell myself to just “keep your legs turning over.”
It’s been a good weekend. Good food. good friends. good workouts. There’s not much more I ask for in life I hope yours was great too!
Oh, just as a side note, the granola we got at Eleven Madison Park is already gone! It was the best granola ever . Frank and I couldn’t keep our hands out of the jar. I am going to have to try and make my own batch asap!!!
