Home Food Weekend recap (safe & sound)

I’m thrilled to report that this past weekend was accident-free.  Well, there were a few accidents of the leaky diaper variety, but I’ll take those any day over the other kind!

On Saturday afternoon, MT and I (and the baby too) attempted to go to the farmers market in Matthews, North Carolina, but once we got there, we saw that it was closed.

As luck would have it, Beach Fest was going on there that day, so we took a stroll through all of the activities.

MT wanted me to face my fear of clowns and have my picture taken with some of them, but I wasn’t having it.  In fact, I couldn’t even bring myself to look in that general direction!

On Saturday night, we went to Brixx for dinner, and I ordered my usual Mediterranean salad with salmon.

(By the way, I’m working on a post that includes all of my favorite salmon recipes.  Stay tuned!)

We had breakfast at Skillets yet again on Sunday.  Can you tell that we like that place?

This post shouldn’t give you total deja vu though because I finally ordered something other than an omelet.

It had been a long time since I had oatmeal, and it was delicious and perfect for the rainy day.

After breakfast, the three of us took a little day trip which included some shopping, a scenic drive, and lunch at Panera.

Because of the rain, I was really in the mood for soup.  It was really good, but as I always say, black bean soup looks downright nasty in photos.

If you live in the south, you’re probably familiar with Harris Teeter grocery stores.  Well, Harris Teeter recently opened a specialty store called 201 Central.  So far, there are only two locations, and MT and I decided to scope out the one in Huntersville while we were on our drive yesterday.

If you like wine and beer (especially home brewing your own), you will love that place!

The store also carries some unique items, such as this salmon rub (consisting of brown sugar, paprika, salt, pepper, and thyme).

The store also has a bar for dispensing your own honey, maple syrup, and agave!

After our usual Sunday dinner, MT and I watched ParaNorman.  We both agreed that it was cute but that it would have been terrifying to watch as a child.  I actually cannot believe that it only had a PG rating!  Then again, this is coming from a grown woman who is still deathly afraid of clowns…

What did you do over the weekend?

Do you still have any fears that date back to your childhood?  Who’s with me- clowns are creepy, right?

Happy Monday!

  1. Sounds like a Great Weekend & Exploring New Places is always a BONUS!!! Went to a Block Party for a neighborhood that is very much in the revitalizing phase and decided to meet with a Healthy Eating Specialist at Whole Foods. Happy Monday – Happy Week:)

  2. Yay, accident free weekend!!! That 201 store looks awesome. I hope we get on at our HT soon!!

    • I think you’d love it! Hopefully, more locations with start popping up all over. They also have a killer cheese selection- which I can’t enjoy being lactose intolerant and all. It is still fun to look though. :)

  3. What a great weekend! And look at that face! I love it!

  4. Sounds like a good weekend to me! The picture of your son at the fair looks adorable. I wish I had a Harris Teether (or 201 store) — I’ve heard so much about it!

    • Thanks so much. He was having a good time. :) Harris Teeter is great, but they are up for sale, so who knows how that will turn out!

  5. looks like a good weekend.
that 201 store looks amazing! i feel like i could spend WAY too much money in there!
hope you had a great monday! :)

  6. Clowns are pretty creepy. Why were they ever assumed to be fun for children?! Yikes!! Michael is absolutely adorable!!
