22 comments Apr 22/13 Weekend Recap

As of Saturday morning, I wasn’t even sure if I’d do a weekend recap because I had a feeling that it would be pretty uneventful.

But a few hours later, my weekend became very eventful.

After taking a walk with my mom and joining her for lunch, I was driving back home with Michael when we came to a three-way stop.

I was in the middle of making a left turn when a truck came flying down the road in the direction that I was turning.  The driver completely blew his stop sign and slammed right into my side of the car.  He pushed my car in the the opposite direction and dragged it alongside his truck for a bit before my car stopped.

In all honesty, I do not remember a lot of details.  It all seems like such a blur.

I do remember that a whole bunch of strangers came running to my car immediately to make sure that I was alright, and I told them that Michael was in the back seat on the passenger’s side.  They all ran to check on him, and wouldn’t you know?  My little boy slept through the entire accident!

I was so concerned about my sweet baby that it wasn’t until about 20 minutes later that I realized I had hit my head on the window.  In fact,  I already had a pretty large bump to show for it.

I did go to the hospital later in the day after feeling a bit dizzy and nauseous, and it turns out that I have my second concussion in 4 months.  One more incident and I’m pretty sure that MT is going to make me wear a helmet every day.

I won’t bore you with any more of the details, but I do want to say that I feel so incredibly blessed and fortunate.  The accident had the potential to be a whole lot worse.

I’ve definitely been giving both Michael and MT extra hugs these past few days.

We picked up my rental car this morning, and I felt a bit nervous behind the wheel.  But give me a little Lionel Richie on the radio, and I’m sure that I’ll be feeling like my normal self again soon.

What did you do over the weekend?  Have you ever been in a car accident?

 Have a great day!

  1. Oh my goodness! So glad you and baby are alright.

  2. He slept through it?!?! Thank God for miracles! Glad you two are safe… sorry about the car though!

    • Yes! Isn’t that crazy? I guess you can say he’s a pretty deep sleeper. At least the car can be replaced. My little one definitely could never be. :)

  3. Oh my goodness! I am so glad to hear you 2 are safe!

  4. Oh No Sweetie – glad you guys are safe – not great on another concussion – take it easy! Did the truck that hit you stop??? Amazing what can happen in a blink of an eye! Hope you feel better soon and gain your confidence behind the wheel again.

    • Thanks, Renee. :) The truck did stop after he hit me, but believe it or not, the driver never came over to apologize. He just stood there smoking a cigarette. As for driving, I figured that I can practice driving a little bit each day. That first drive was definitely scary though. I probably looked like a little 98 year old woman!

      • I know I could not just stand around if I hit someone and would make sure everyone was okay. Baby Steps for sure – slow and steady gets you from point a to point b.

  5. nick s.

wow, that’s terrible. i saw this when i drove by!! i didn’t know it was you. the cops made us go around and keep moving. i’m glad everybody is ok and you are safe. i had no idea who it was until now.

    • Crazy that you saw it, Nick. Yep- I was on the side of the road with the baby carrier and lots of nice witnesses. It will be a long while before I drive that way again!

  6. Omgosh Erin that is so scary! I’m sorry that you were injured and your car was damaged but I’m sooo soo glad that you (relatively) and the baby are okay!

I would be a bit nervous behind the wheel too.

    Take care of yourself!

    • Thanks so much, Josie! :) The fact that Michael is safe is definitely all that matters to me, and I’m already healing up pretty fast. :)

  7. Oh no! Glad you and baby are ok!

Here’s to a great week ahead!

Go crank up some Lionel and have a little impromptu dance party.

That always makes things better hehe.

Hello or All Night Long….All night :)

  8. Thank God you and Michael are okay!! The accident looks nasty from the picture of the car, thank goodness for all those wonderful people that came to your help also.

  9. Oh my goodness!! “It’s amazing what a minute can do”… LOL <–quoting Dave Matthews Band b/c I am their biggest fan! Glad everyone is OK.

Thanks for joining us at Showin' Some Love Hump Day! :)

  10. Oh no! So happy to hear that you and your baby are ok! Thank goodness. I have been in a fender bender, but I have witnessed a bad accident once, that I will never forget. Take care of yourself and hope your headaches go away!

  11. Aww I am so sorry! Glad to see that you are both safe! Sending that helmet in the mail now!! ;-)
