It's about 7:30 on Sunday morning and I'm just hanging out before I get dressed and head out to a race. I've been so pooped all week, in bed by 9:00 pm each night (very early for me!) and I haven't had a chance to read any blogs, so I'm getting caught up. I guess some people read the paper, I read blogs. Hmm.
Anyway, it's been an exhausting week. Even though we're done with our snow, the weather is still pretty cold and those winter chills are hard to shake. It's nice at least to know that your shoes will stick to the sidewalk if you want to go and run, so that's a huge plus. On Wednesday, we headed down to the store for a mid-week run. I was intent on doing some hills but the husband decided to run with the marathon group and do a 10k tempo.
My group was supposed to do 9 hills, but obviously I figured I wouldn't do that many. I just wanted to do some hills at a nice slow pace to get in a workout, but not push myself too much. I am really noticing that I'm slowin' down already, not so much just in speed, but in endurance I guess. My baby's only about 1.5 inches long so obviously not very heavy yet, but it feels like I'm packing around 50 extra pounds already! Ha ha. Thing is, I still haven't figured out if that is all pregnancy related or also partly due to a less than regular running schedule over the holidays. I'm hoping the next few weeks will shed some light on that.
Regardless, I was just happy to get out there and run up that dreadful hill without any expectations. It's not so scary when you don't have to do a certain number! I managed to do 5 repeats and was sufficiently pooped after that so we headed back to the store. I walked a few extra times on the way back and by that point the bun in my oven told me it was in dire need of a chocolate bar. Ha ha, so we walked to Safeway afterwards and grabbd a Mr. Big bar...oh Mr.Big where have you been all my life? :o)
Overall, here's what we did:
Total distance: 7.57 km
Total time: 56:09
Average pace: 7:24/km (not really a useful number when you've done hills, since they're usually slower)
Out of interest's sake, I wanted to compare my hill times to before..
Average time per hill repeat now: 1:52 mins per hill
Average time per hill repeat then: 1:42 mins per hill (yup, definitely slower!)
Anyhow, it was a nice run but it wore me out and I pretty much crawled into bed as soon as we got home afterwards! Oh, after a quick dinner of course.
I just looked out the window and even though the temperature says -4 degrees (yikes!) the sun is shining, so it should be a nice morning for a race.
