As you know, I love living in Newburyport. Not only is a wonderfully scenic and historic in its own right but it is close to so many other beautiful towns. In addition to our hike around Maudslay State Park , we took advantage of the long holiday weekend to explore Portsmouth New Hampshire, only 30 minutes away.
Portsmouth is full of old buildings, quaint shops, and unique cafes. I was most interested in window shopping and restaurant browsing for dinner for future date nights. However, Nick had his heart set on walking down to the harbor.
I teased him a bit because the harbor is necessarily the prettiest aspect of Portsmouth as it’s quite industrial. We did, however, catch this fella out for a joy ride.
After strolling around, browsing a few book stores, and coveting all of the comfy clothes at the Life’s Good shop (seriously I want two of each clothing item they sell) we grabbed some refreshments at the Portsmouth Bread Co., a wonderfully bright and welcoming bakery in the downtown area.
Nick munched on the Tomato and Cheese Strata…
While I enjoyed a freshly brewed Moroccan Mint Green Iced Tea.
I wish I had been hungry because I could have murdered one of these…
Cupcake love sighhhh…
While walking back to our car, we noticed Gilley’s Diner wedged right next to the parking garage.
Although it looks a little cramped, it’s extremely popular and the prices are pretty reasonable.
I had never heard of Poutine before so I looked it up when we got home. Turns out it’s fries topped with gravy and cheese curds.
Looks a little too heavy for my belly!
I would love to hear from you…
Have you explored any new towns/areas lately?Have you ever tried Poutine?
