So, you want to live a healthy lifestyle? I do too. I think one of the first steps to living healthy is creating a plan and setting goals.
Why plan? Because, at least for me, it keeps me going. When I have plans and goals for my health, I work harder to achieve them. It is constantly on my mind and I have more success.
Goals can be anything you want them to be. You can set a goal to eat 5 fruits/vegetables daily. You can set a goal to exercise 30 minutes a day everyday this week. You can set a goal to limit junk food this week. A goal should be measurable and reachable, but it should still challenge you.
Goals are great, but if there is no plan in place, they could be hard to reach. For example, if I have a goal to run 5 miles on 3 different days this week, I need to plan which days I will run. I need to plan what time. If I don’t, it will be easy for me to put it off until the next day, or the next day. I might never even get around to it.
One thing that helps me keep track of my progress is writing things down. At the beginning of the week I write down my goals and plans in a notebook. Every day I do whatever I planned to do, whether it’s running, biking, swimming, lifting, or a combo. Sometimes things come up and I have to switch things up, but I always write down what I actually did.
A food journal is also useful to me. I have found that when I use a food journal I eat better. I don’t overeat and I eat healthier foods. If you want to eat healthier, try using a food journal. See how you like it.
So here’s the bottom line. If you want to live a little healthier, set goals and plans to do so. You know yourself better than anyone and you know what you can do better. Write down your goals and plans and make it happen.
If you’ve already been living healthier, set new goals and really challenge yourself. It’s fun!
