I never realized until recently how much fun walking is. The other night my wife and I walked the 2 miles to her parent’s house, visited with them for awhile, and then walked the 2 miles home. It was a fun walk, and a good little workout.
I think walking is one of the most underrated activities we can do for physical activity. It definitely isn’t my first choice (I’m more of a run, bike, or swim guy), but if there’s nothing else possible, a walk is the way to go.
For people who are sedentary and haven’t done much physical activity lately, walking is a great way to get back into being active again. Whether outside at the park, or inside the mall, there’s always a place to walk. No need for fancy equipment either.
Getting fit is all about starting small and creating good habits. There are many components of physical fitness, and walking will give you a good start to developing some of those components.
If all you do for physical activity is walk for 30 minutes a day on most days of the week, you will be doing your body and mind a favor. There’s obviously a lot more you can do, but if nothing else, go for a walk. It’s fun and good for you too.
