It's been dreary out all day. I am unmotivated for a run so I go for a walk instead. I put on warm layers, grab a hat, mittens, my down vest, and head out.
Shivering for the first few minutes, I feel silly about walking when I don't have anywhere to go. Then I hit a big hill and begin to warm up. Forging on, I notice how refreshing the crisp air feels as it fills up my lungs and clears my head. When I reach the top of the hill, I am rewarded with an exhilarating view of the city skyline. A woman asks for directions and gives me a nice smile for my help. I come home after 25 minutes, happy that I made the day count.
Here are some good reasons for you to go on your walk:
- Walking is great for those days you don't feel like doing much
- Walking improves fitness and physical agility
- Walking reduces certain types of diabetes
- Walking strengthens your heart
- Walking results in higher body bone density, especially good for us women as we age
- Walking enhances brain functions and helps you think more clearly
- Walking gives you a chance to take time for yourself
