It's been dreary out all day. I am unmotivated for a run so I go for a walk instead. I put on warm layers, grab a hat, mittens, my down vest, and head out.
Shivering for the first few minutes, I feel silly about walking when I don't have anywhere to go. Then I hit a big hill and begin to warm up. Forging on, I notice how refreshing the crisp air feels as it fills up my lungs and clears my head. When I reach the top of the hill, I am rewarded with an exhilarating view of the city skyline. A woman asks for directions and gives me a nice smile for my help. I come home after 25 minutes, happy that I made the day count.
Here are some good reasons for you to go on your walk:
Walking is great for those days you don't feel like doing much
Walking improves fitness and physical agility
Walking reduces certain types of diabetes
Walking strengthens your heart
Walking results in higher body bone density, especially good for us women as we age
Walking enhances brain functions and helps you think more clearly
Walking gives you a chance to take time for yourself
