Vitality Show Review

Posted Mar 27 2012 3:30am

This weekend I headed to Earls Court 2 in London for a day of health, food and beauty at the Vitality Show.

One of the main reasons I went was for the guest speakers on the Activia Health and Nutrition Stage. They had a full schedule of impressive guest speakers and I could’ve easily spent the majority of my time there. In the end I listened to three talks from Patrick Holford, Dr Marilyn Glenville and celebrity fitness trainer Ramona Braganza.

As I own a couple of Patrick Holford books I was really interested to hear his talk on the 10 secrets of healthy ageing. While it was focused on ageing, with advice on how to prevent brain and body degeneration as you grow older through nutrition and supplements, I found this talk really interesting and full of useful information that can be put into practice at any stage in life. More of this to come in a future post!

At the end of his talk I decided to take up the show offer and subscribe to Patrick’s 100% health club. The annual membership was £35 with a free copy of his new book – The 10 Secrets of Healthy Ageing – which is released for sale on April 5th. I even got my copy signed by the man himself…

The second talk I went to was Dr Marilyn Glenville’s the seven essential supplements women need for good health. Marilyn addressed a number of issues including how to ease symptoms of the menopause, polycystic ovaries (PCOS), PMS and endometriosis through a balanced diet and supplementation, which again I hope to address in future posts.

Finally, the third guest speaker I saw was celebrity fitness trainer Ramona Braganza. I’ve mentioned her before as the women who got Kate Beckinsale into shape, but she is also the trainer responsible for Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel’s figures amongst others. Braganza shared her own history, including her move from gymnast to cheerleader, bodybuilder and eventually trainer, along with tips on how to get the body you want. Ramona is bringing her brand over to the UK later this year, sharing her 3-2-1 workouts and nutrition plans to get you into shape. If it works for the likes of Jessica Alba, this is definitely something to look out for!

Of course there was a lot more to this event and my next favourite zone was the food area! With lots of interesting new products to discover and free samples to taste it was a foodie paradise. As well as nibbling on some of my favourite snacks from Nakd, 9Bar and Munchy Seeds, I also discovered Bessant & Drury Ice Cream , Cherry Active and got a taste of the OhSo Probiotic chocolate bar I wrote about recently.

There were some great offers on food; I bought a big pack of Linwoods Flax with cocoa and berries plus a 500g bag of goji berries for £5, and they provided me with mini samples of all their other flavours – perfect for sprinkling onto porridge or yoghurts for extra omega-3s and minerals.

As always at these types of exhibitions I got a bit carried away with the magazine stalls. I picked up both the Zest and Healthy magazine goodie bags, and was pretty impressed with what I got.

For £1 I picked up both the current and last issues of Healthy magazine, along with a tester of anti-oxidant organic cocoa, an apricot chewy bar, Protoplus protein bar, peppermint teabag and Organic Cashew Nuts.

Over at the Zest stand I got the current issue plus a goodie bag including Clipper Green Tea with Lemon, a can of fizzy drink, mini body butter, honey, White Glo toothpaste, mini Eat Natural bar, Salt & Pepper pistachios and Nescafe cappuccino sachet all for £3!

Add to that the Vitality Show goodie bag with a bottle of Appletizer, eye drops, Nivea samples and Oat so Simple, and I did pretty well!

The show also has beauty, fitness and pampering zones with great offers on everything from mineral make up to sportswear.

Overall it was a great day out and I’d definitely go again next year. Did you go to the Vitality Show or have you been before?
