Vegetarian Diet Health Risk and MSG Excitotoxins

Posted Sep 15 2009 11:06pm
Vegetarians beware! There are a few nutritional and health issues to consider if your on a vegetarian diet but the one I want to focus on today is that many foods labeled as "vegetarian" contain substances known as Excitotoxins. Excitotoxins have hyper-stimulating and destructive effects on brain tissue that can lead to a variety of health problems especially in more sensitive individuals. A primary Excitotoxin is MSG. Excitotoxins have been shown to cause destructive lesions in the hypothalamus and a increase in endocrine organ disorders such as infertility, menstrual difficulties, polycystic ovaries, and other reproductive problems. They are also implicated in early even subtle damage to a developing brain that can cause severe changes in personality decades later in life. As well as potentially cause autism, learning disorders, hyperactivity and schizophrenia.

Some people are more naturally sensitive due to lack of key enzymes in their body or due to deficiency in certain nutrients such as calcium, vitamin C and vitamin E in their diets. Many processed prepared vegetarian foods contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein which is a disguised form of MSG (Monosodium Glutamate). Many contain hydrolyzed soy protein which according to Dr. Russell Blaylock creates a greater concentration of glutamate excitotoxins than other forms of hydrolyzed protein, so if you’re suffering from headaches, anxiety, fatigue, lethargy, forgetfulness or other problems then you better get off these products immediately. It would be a good idea to avoid these products at all costs anyway. Once again eating less processed food is better for you. One popular item among vegetarians is Bragg’s Amino’s and according to Dr. Blaylock, it is suspect as well. The full details are not able to be garnered from this product but it may contain high levels of excitotoxins so use them at your own discretion.

Here are some other key buzzwords to look out for in packaged processed foods: any hydrolyzed vegetable protein, hydrolyzed plant protein, hydrolyzed soy protein, broth, caseinate, sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, yeast extract, autolyzed yeast extract, textured protein. These are all forms of disguised MSG

The vegetarian diet is still a much healthier diet overall compared to the high protein, high saturated fat diets of the typical American. You must however choose your food products wisely to avoid potential health related issues.
