UAB researchers shining bright at International Stroke Conference

Posted Feb 02 2012 4:01pm
Who knew the amount of time you spend in the sun could impact your stroke risk? University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health researchers knew. Now that they have shared it, many are taking note.

Currently in New Orleans for the American Stroke Association's 2012 International Stroke Conference , Leslie McClure , Ph.D., and Suzanne Judd , Ph.D., both presented preliminary findings from two seperate studies that show an increase in vitamin D intake - which can occur while in the sun - could lower stroke risk.

Not even 24 hours later - and the news is everywhere. A simple Google search of "Vitamin D & Stroke" articles posted in the past day will bring you more than 65,000 hits.

CNN Health blog " The Chart ," broke down the findings Wednesday evening. WebMD has also taken note with a story about the news published to their Stroke Health Center. It doesn't stop there though - U.S. News & World Report also picked up a HealthDay story on the findings.

Check out the articles; the information both researchers presented is pretty fascinating. They even collected data from NASA satellites to assist in determining sunlight exposure. Good stuff.

More research is expected to confirm the research findings.
