Turkish Feast

***winner of Subway gift card at end of post***

What day is it?

Oh yeah, Thursday. So hard to keep track these days! :)

I fully intended to continue my regular blogging schedule and blog once in the morning and once at night, but things have come up at night and by the time we get home I am too tired to blog. I will do my best to post twice a day the next few weeks, but I can’t promise it’s going to happen. Thanks for bearing with me during this crazy time!

Lunch yesterday was the same as the day before . A chicken salad wrap. IMG_4914 It was equally as delicious as the first time!

For dinner we met our friends at Talullas in Chapel Hill. IMG_4540 A Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant. IMG_4541 I loved the decor! IMG_4543 Unique lighting. IMG_4544 Beautiful rugs on the wall.

And we practically had the place to ourselves!

We began the evening with cocktails. IMG_4546 I enjoyed a vodka soda with a splash of cranberry and lime (x2).

I’m starting to get sick of just wine and beer :)

Then we ordered a bunch of appetizers to share, starting with the Mezze Platter. IMG_4547 Which was a sampler platter that included all of the cold vegetable mezes.

  • Hummus
  • Yogurt with dill and garlic
  • Grape leaves
  • Babaganoush
  • Turkish Tabouli
  • Red lentil patty

Served with Turkish bread. IMG_4548 Which was perfect for dipping.

Our second appetizer was falafel! IMG_4550 Which came with a yogurt sauce, arugula, cabbage, tomatoes, and onions.

Our final appetizer was steamed dumplings with ground lamb and beef. IMG_4551 This was my least favorite, but I still enjoyed two dumplings. And the sauce was perfect for bread dipping! It had a nice little kick to it.

We were all pretty full from the three different appetizers, but had been told that we really needed to try a lamb dish. So we ended up splitting one entree between the four of us. IMG_4552 We decided on an entree of  sautéed eggplant, Zucchini, carrot, green beans, tomato, Potato, broccoli, green pepper and bits of tender lamb. It was also served steaming hot with rice.

This was fantastic! I mean, all of the food was delicious, but this was my favorite. There was something about the flavors and perfect amount of heat. And the lamb was deliciously tender.

Chris and I have plans to go back to try a few different items on the menu!

Side note – I took the day off from exercise yesterday! My body needed it.

This morning we were out of milk so I had a bowl of yogurt and granola. IMG_4918 I used one container of Dannon Greek Yogurt (you probably can’t even tell it’s in that bowl! It blends in)

Mixed with Bear Naked Granola . IMG_4920 Similar to cereal serving sizes ,  you really need to be aware of the serving size of granola as it can be high in fat and calories.

One serving of Bear Naked is 1/4 cup. IMG_4928 I was pleased to see how little sugar there was in each serving! Especially since I prefer vanilla yogurt over plain, which is always higher in sugar.

My bowl of yogurt contained 16g of sugar.

It’s amazing how small 1/4 cup is! IMG_4927 I decided to add two more tablespoons. IMG_4930 So I could fill the bowl :)

Then I topped it off with some blueberries! IMG_4940 (2) Local blueberries to be exact. IMG_4940 (2) Good stuff.

I have plans to eat a hard boiled egg before my workout. With POT of course!

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for.
