It’s Wednesday! This week has been quite productive – lots of good stuff going on the rest of the week too. (Can I take a moment to mention how awesome TV has been this week? Entourage premier + Bachelorette + RHONY Reunion = So good. Joe is about to lose his mind.)
Anyways, I completed an awesome 7-mile treadmill tempo run this morning. I know it sounds terrible. But for the majority of it I felt awesome. At one point I did NOT feel awesome – and I made sure to note when exactly this was: at mile 3.67, which is pretty much halfway. This is where I considered cutting the mileage and/or slowing it down. But I busted through it and felt fine again in a few minutes. (Proud!)
I think one of the reasons why I felt so good this morning was because I just downloaded some kick-ass new workout tunes. I pretty much always run with music – except for during an occasional race. And, really, the only thing that gets me through treadmill workouts is music. Allow me to share some of my recently uploaded tunes, mmmk? Oh, and don’t judge. And if you don’t like Britney, stop reading now.
First, one of my favorite running albums is called “Adrenaline Junkie – 40 Minutes of High Intensity Running Music.” It has a bunch of techno tracks that range between 155 – 190 beats per minute. Plus there’s this sexy Australian running coach voice that comes on once in awhile for motivational chat. You can get it on iTunes.
Other Recent Faves:
I Wanna Go – Deluxe Version (Britney)
Only Girl in the World – Workout Remix (Rihanna)
I Need a Doctor (Eminem)
Come Out And Play (The Offspring)
Waiting for the End (Linkin Park)
If U Seek Amy – Crookers Remix (Britney)
Telephone – RokCity Remix (Lady Gaga/Beyone – from Losing It w/Jillian Michaels Workout Mix)
According to You – CPR Remix (Losing It w/Jillian Michaels Workout Mix)
The OTHER reason why I think my workout went so well was because I made the most amazing pre-run snack last night. You see, I'm on an endless mission to find a recipe for a homemade granola bar/energy bite/muffin, etc. – in case we ever run out of these or these. And I did. Thanks to this recipe from (never home) maker, we are in Coconut & Carob Energy Chunk heaven in our household. You must try these immediately. (Also: these are raw and can be vegan if you use vegan carob chips – my sister is trying a vegan diet so I hope she’s reading this!)
(I also added in approx 1 tablespoon of chia seeds cause I just bought a new bag and was excited)
1. Blend together walnuts and oats in a food processor until combined.
2. Mix together almond butter, vanilla, and syrup.
3. In a large bowl, combine walnut + oat mixture with almond butter + vanilla + syrup mixture.
4. Add coconut, carob chips, and chia seeds to mixture and combine well.
5. Form into little, delectable, bite-sized chunks and pack well.
6. Place chunks on wax paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate until hardened.
This is the first time I’ve used carob chips! They’re delicious, if you’ve never tried them before. They’re a unique alternative to your standard dark chocolate chip, but have a nicely added nutty flavor. They’re made from carob plant and it’s said they are an aphrodisiac (ooooh!)
Anyways, I love these energy chunks. Thank you, Ashley & Stephen at (never home)maker!!!
And one last thing before I conclude this post…
Check out what I got yesterday:
NEW BIKE! It’s a KHS Brentwood Hybrid. Nothing fancy, but way faster and lighter than my old mountain bike (which I may or may not have purchased at Target.) I also have a pretty intense and intimidating Kryptonite bike lock!
I’m BACK, baby!
Okay – Do you run with music? Any suggestions on awesome running/workout tunes? I want more!
