Tulane Cares for Day Laborers

Posted Oct 22 2008 9:31pm

The Tulane Latino Health Outreach Project has been started to address a new need in New Orleans.  It is something familiar to many communities in California and other areas, but fairly new to New Orleans and its surrounding areas.  During a recent trip home I drove through Lee Circle and immediately noticed a small group of young Hispanic men in front of the gas station.  I later heard that the city is seeing a rise in immigrant day laborers -- and it is certainly needed to help rebuild the city.

However, politics aside, care must be taken to educate these workers on protecting their health and preventing serious injury or illness!  Great idea Catherine Jones (a future MD)!
