After a stead fast diet of holiday treats, starches, and carbs, oh my. My year ended 15lbs heavier. Who doesn’t gain weight over the holidays? Well… I don’t. I’ve mentioned before, the holidays were always a stressful time, trying to cram for finals, surviving on whatever I could that was available at arm’s length from my desk, and more often than not, I always lost weight. Stress related for sure, which is never sustainable. But I had a fantastic time this holiday season, combined with 2 weeks of not working out, those 15lbs caught up QUICK. But I don’t get depressed when I gain weight. Everything still fit, maybe a little snugger, maybe my eat’n-pants came out of the drawer a couple times, but I know I don’t have a problem shedding the ‘over-eating’ weight. It’s the plateau weight that I can’t seem to get over. And I have been stuck for damn near 6 months.
It’s been a whole week and I have dropped 5lbs thanks to working out 4x this week and a consistent healthy diet. Maybe my body just needed the extra poundage to get the wheels going. You know, like trying to get a car up a hill, the further you are away from it, the more power you have to give it to get over the hill? Does that make sense? Who cares, it makes sense to me.

I did happen to go out three times this week with social engagements, I was worried I would fall off track too soon if I went out with friends. But they were all super fun and I had a fantastic time, even celebrated with a few Gin & Tonics and margaritas and still kept the diet in check. I even turned down 2am Chinese food dinner with friends, tell me that isn’t discipline!
So 5lbs is kind of a lot for a week. How did I do it?
My diet was very simple and easy. Every day I basically ate the same thing:
Breakfast: Low Sugar Oatmeal & a cup of coffee
Snack: pretzel sticks/ laughing cow OR a Clementine
Lunch: Veggie Lentil Soup w/ half a pita or Low-fat homemade shrimp scampi or Turkey and hummus wrap
Snack: Banana
Workout for 3x with TKD , roughly 2 hours each. Then yoga at home on the weekend for 30 minutes and another 30 minutes of weight training.
For dinner, it varied from green monster shakes (here’s another good protein shake )after a hard workout, or for this week, I had spicy wings with the girls on Thursday& shrimp tacos and guacamole on Friday.
I need to tweak the lunches a bit. I know I am definitely not getting enough energy (calories) to sustain such a hard workout; I’ve been getting a bit light headed lately.
I’m sure a 5lb weight loss won’t happen every week, but I was glad to see it go. I’d be happy with 2-3lbs per week.
And in other news, I did happen to buy a skirt this week that was 2 sizes smaller and it fit perfectly. I felt pretty cute
