Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Review and Giveaway

Posted Nov 07 2010 8:31am

If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I am crazy about everything coconut.

  • Coconut water is packed with hydrating electrolytes. Plus it tastes really good :) I love drinking it after a tough workout.
  • Coconut milk is a great source of medium chain fatty acids , plus it is a good source of vitamin B12 and vitamin D.
  • Coconut oil has many other uses besides cooking. It can be used as a skin and hair moisturizer! I only really use it in cooking and baking , but there are other uses out there.

Imagine the look on my face when I was sent a massive jar of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil . It was like a little kid unwrapping a new toy at Christmas. I have been drooling over their products (I LOVE the coconut peanut butter ) on the website for months and finally decided to ask for a sample to review! I was sent a quart of certified organic Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil to try.

According to the website, this is the highest quality coconut oil they have to offer. You may be asking “What’s the difference?” The answer is in the process used to actually make the coconut oil. The Philippines-based founders of Tropical Traditions have perfected a method of making this premium, unrefined virgin coconut oil by hand with a centuries-old process that produces the oil without using heat, chemicals or solvents. Independent laboratory analysis shows this to be one of the highest quality coconut oils on the market, having the highest levels of antioxidants. This enhanced Virgin Coconut Oil is now in the US market under the Tropical Traditions label.

The night that I received my coconut oil, I put it to the test by making a batch of Cinnamon Roasted Sweet Potatoes for dinner.

The sweet potatoes turned out wonderfully! The were crispy on the outside, but soft and gooey in the middle. They literally melted in my mouth! The coconut oil added a pleasant flavor without overpowering the sweet potatoes.

I can’t wait to try some of the coconut recipes on the Tropical Traditions site!
