Training, training and more training

Posted Apr 24 2012 9:38pm
I'm still kind of ticked about last night's trip to the pool .  Whatever, I'm tough.  I just don't like rude, punky teenagers.  I sure hope my boys don't grow up to be like that, no water polo for our boys!  Ha ha.

Anyhow, I spent quite a bit of time last night poring over training plans and calendars and race schedules trying to sort out how my running will go over the next few months.  I'm signed up for all kinds of great races in the coming months - it is my Dream Year of Racing after all! - so I wanted to make sure I knew how I'd be bridging between each of them.  I don't wanna just coast, but I don't wanna burn out either.  What I finally put together looks pretty good I think.

As I flipped through all of my notes and schedules at the end of the night, I had to sit back for a moment.  That binder full of pages contained a whole lot of running.  Some of it already completed, much of it yet to come.  Many hours, many miles, much sweat.  If you had asked me years ago if I'd ever become a runner and expect myself to cover that many miles in anything other than my car, I would have thought you were crazy.  But here I am.

I don't want to get all sappy, but it's pretty amazing how much things can change.  It's crazy how much life can surprise you.  Sometimes you end up facing challenges you never thought you could handle.  Sometimes you end up doing things you never thought you would.  Sometimes you find that more people are rooting for you than you thought.  Sometimes the supporters you thought would always be there, just aren't anymore.  And sometimes you find yourself about to sign up for the craziest racing experience you never thought you'd attempt!  Ha ha.  Well, crazy for me anyways...

So yeah, I like to think back every now and then and just enjoy what I'm doing, what I've done and where I'm headed.  And where I am headed at this point is towards a lot of training.  I'm still putting some finishing touches on my long term training and racing plans but all of that shall be decided in the next day or so and then I can get to work!

In other news, me and the boys have been barricaded in the house for the past few days doing some, ahem, training of another kind.  I'm not going into details, but let me just say to the Moms out there, the 3 Day Potty Training Method actually, honestly works!  (I owe the lady who wrote it some very huge thanks!)  So while we've been hanging at home, I've been getting little odd jobs done including adding to my inspiration board down in the gym a bit...

Oops, my BMO poster glared a bit there, too bad, because the branding for this race is really nice.  I just love how creative some of the race ads are getting.  Just seeing the ones for races I'm doing puts a little pep in my step when I'm on that treadmill.  Today I had a 6km tempo run on the schedule and seeing the sign my niece made for me at the First Half Marathon in February made the miles tick by a lot faster.   Go Nikki Go!
