Tips to get yourself motivated after falling off the exercise wagon

Posted Oct 12 2012 3:00pm

My dear readers, there is no post for you guys today. As sad and embarrassing as it is for me to admit, I completely failed this week. I don’t even want to tell you how badly I did… I took 4 days off exercise during which I ate like crap. I don’t know what brought it on and where it came from. It might be the fact that I’m being overly controlling with calorie counting (even though I was eating quite a large number of calories per day anyway so I don’t think it’s because of any restriction). It must have been mental. Something must have been missing in my life that made me break out so bad. From Sunday till Wednesday I didn’t do anything. Not a single thing. My days, eating wise, went from alright, to bad, to worse, to horrible on Wednesday. It was bad. I don’t know what brings these days on but I know a part of it has to do with the fact that I was staying immobile. Exercise and activity is what keeps my mind in check – it keeps me motivated and excited and willing to eat clean and in the right portions.

Today’s post deals with ways to motivate yourself after falling off the exercise wagon as I did. Although (thankfully) I made myself workout on Thursday morning to attempt to get back up, I had to ask my fellow Fitfluential Ambassadors for advice.I asked them How do you get yourself motivated to get back on the wagon after falling offand here is what they had to say:

“I like to have a plan. The satisfaction of crossing something off every day really keeps me motivated, even if it just says REST!!” – Leah from Chocolate and Wild Air

“Get dressed. Seriously – sometimes just the act of putting your workout clothes on gets you one step closer to the gym.” – Laura from Sprint 2 The Table

“Remind yourself how much better you felt, physically and mentally, when you were working out regularly. Working out clears your mind and makes you happier and healthier!” – Sylvia from Frolic Through Life

“Find a new exercise or workout to try that is new and fun!” – Sarah from Fit Betty

“Usually when I feel unmotivated, it’s because that “spark” is missing so I like to mix things up a bit…try a new workout, a new class, or forget the gym altogether and take it outdoors with a good walk or run (nothing like a good dose of fresh air AND sweat to get you going!)” – Heather from Kiss My Broccoli

“I recommend a food and workout journal. :) ” – Monica from Monica Nelson Fitness

“New workout clothes always motivate me! If I’m feeling out of it, I will bribe myself with a new top or pair of shorts! Then I feel more motivated at the gym :-) ” – Andrea from A Doctor in the House

“Each morning is a brand new beginning and a chance to start over. Get some sleep, then put on your tennis shoes, and conquer the day!” – Kasey from Well of Health
