Heart is the most vital organ of our body. We are alive as long as this organ functions well. Any impact to its well functioning or disease directly is a threat to one’s life. It is this organ which controls the blood flow (and oxygen) in our body. Thus it is very necessary we maintain cardiac function well in all possible ways.
First of all, one needs to do regular walking and/or jogging and other physical exercises. This keeps the heart strong. Walking and jogging keeps the blood circulation intact. Experts have advised one should bend on knees after indulging in sports or any physical exercise (like all sportsmen do), this brings our heart parallel to the ground and minimizes the risk of getting heart attack.
Diet: Fat is the enemy of human body. Thus fat intake should be under control, in fact, should be the least. You have to take care that the total fat intake in your diet should be less than 30 to 35% of your total calories that you consume. You also have to control on saturated fatty acid intake which again should be less than 10 percent of total calories. Polyunsaturated acid intake should be no more than 10 percent. Cholesterol which is also a major risk for heart, should only be consumed no more than 300 milligrams per day and also sodium should be limited up to 3000 milligrams a day.
Other habits: Remain active. Refrain from alcoholic beverages and if you are consuming alcohol occasionally, take care of the snacks you have with alcohol. Avoid spicy and oily snacks which are very harmful for the vascular system. You should also have good sleeping habits. Follow a healthy sleeping cycle of about 6 to max 7 hours a day. Make a habit of taking the last meal of the day at least two hours before your bedtime. Do not form of habit of sleeping very late nights and getting up late. If you have sleep disturbance problems, try and cure that with treatment as sound sleep is very necessary for maintaining function.
